Gulf Spill Guilty Plea

Anthony Badalamenti, a former Halliburton manager, pleaded guilty on Tuesday, October 15, 2013, to one misdemeanor count of destruction of evidence.  Badalamenti was the cementing technology director for Halliburton Energy Services Inc. (BP’s cement contractor on the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig).

According to prosecutors, Badalamenti, in May 2010, directed a senior program manager to run computer simulations on centralizers, which are used to keep the casing centered in the wellbore. The results indicated there was little difference between using six or twenty-one (21) centralizers. Badalamenti apparently instructed a program manager to delete the results. A different Halliburton employee was also instructed by Badalmenti to delete data from a separate round of simulations.

Badalamenti is scheduled to be sentence January 21, 2014.
